Nice work. Very good replication. However, looks like your losing a lot to friction on the bearings and air resistance. Great work though and cool to see an Orbo replication attempt in wood. :-)?

Bearing friction and air resistance are NOTHING compared with the working load any real motor will be expected to perform. Of course, the lower the load, the lower the back-EMF. Steorn's weaselly claim of no back-EMF appears almost true, because Steorn demos their Orbo under NO LOAD conditions. Hook up a real world load (fan, pump, mixer, generator,? etc.) and you WILL get back-EMF in spades. Every competent electrical engineer knows this. Orbo is no exception.

That is correct. The driving force to the wheel is not really connected to the system and does not interact either. As you will see from the videos the draw of kinetic energy into magnetic energy has not a proportional effect as standard physics predict. I measured back EMF but I did not shunt it away but rather used it to drive the coil. Using a diode in a standard? fashion reduces the torque by over 20%.

The Toroid coils with this kind of magnet orientation is producing almost? no EMF. Load does not change that. But driving it and charging a battery to drive it is not working on a larger system. On the toy system, fine, but not on a bigger scale. The load and drag is tremendous if you want to use useful power. However, even if you would be able to charge a battery bank to drive the wheel is not good enough. I move on to other systems.

Why not a simple input-output comparison, where we see the input voltage and current, and we see the load voltage and current, at optimal rotation speed? A lamp lights up but that is not really useful, please do a demonstration where you power a load of some sort, maybe? a motor that pumps water or spins a fan or somehting, and you measure the power being consumed by the load. Nice and simple no?

@DerrickA4mag

"Bearing friction and air resistance are NOTHING compared with the working load any real motor will be? expected to perform."

WORD.

Many do not realize that when you watch these videos that you are hearing the sound out of your speakers not the motor in the video. So if your speakers? have a maximum output 50 watts, then maximum output you can really perceive in the video is 50 watts.

That is also my opinion. No direct load can be applied sufficient. If you, however stack up the driving wheels and reduce air resistance and bearing drag you might be able to drive load direct. If the COP would be over 100%, I'm not sure. Patrick J Kelly did a great job to collect all free energy devices. Charles Flynn did build such a device before Steorn working on the same? principles. Efficiency is higher. I have not seen this device in action so far but worth to replicate.

So, really, all Orbo will do, is reduce the losses from BEMF on efficiency? Rather than offering lots of energy for free, it will allow getting a bit more useful work out of the same battery. Better mileage for your e-car, perhaps? even a higher top speed. All very nice, but it seems like an airmile type of freeby. You get them back "for free" after you invested a multitude.
If they really have O, they are presenting it very badly.
